Celebrity BMI

The body mass index (BMI) is used to determine a person's weight status: underweight, healthy, overweight, or obese. BMI is calculated using a person's weight (in pounds) and height (in inches). BMI is given by the formula: 

Part 1: Use the formula to find the BMIs and weight statuses of the following celebrities:


Part 2: Pick one celebrity whose weight status is not healthy. How much weight would he or she need to gain or lose to have a healthy BMI? Show and explain how you got your answer.

  1. Cee Lo Green is obese. 245 times 703 is equal to 172,235 and 5'7 is equal to 67 inches. 67 inches times 67 inches equals 4,489. 172,235 divided by 4, 489 is rounded to 38 which is more than 30. That makes him obese.

  2. Taylor Swift is underweight. Her BMI is rounded to 17, which is under 18. 703*120=84060. 70 squared is 4900. 84060/70 is about 17. Taylor Swift needs to gain about 10 more pounds in order to by healthy.
